Choose Files if you are a solo user on Windows seeking a modern file management experience. Its user-friendly WinUI 3 interface with tabs and dual panes enhances navigation, and its tagging and column views provide better organization than the default File Explorer. However, it’s Windows-only, so avoid it if you require a cross-platform solution or specific advanced scripting features.
Opt for Penpot if you are part of a privacy-conscious team or an advocate for open-source solutions. Its real-time collaboration and compatibility with design standards make it a solid choice for teams looking to design and prototype collectively. Keep in mind, though, that if you need a comprehensive plugin ecosystem or a highly polished interface like Figma offers, Penpot may not meet all your expectations.
